Appeals Process
Initial OPM Review
1-6 months
An application is first looked at for consideration in the initial OPM review
Reconsideration
3-6 months
When an initial denial is appealed,
reconsideration can be requested within 30 days
MSPB
3-6 months
After a second denial, the applicant may appeal the OPM decision to the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB).
Reconsideration
If your Government Employee Benefits Analysis Disability Retirement case is denied, then you will be mailed a denial letter that details why. In the event of being denied and receiving this dismissal notice in the mail, you have 30 days from the date of the letter to submit a reconsideration request to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
Review Decision
You can have the OPM make a new decision based on the original evidence included, along with any documents already in your file.
Submit New Evidence
You can submit new evidence for the OPM to consider. Your case will be assigned to a new Medical Specialist.
Request An Extension
You can request a 30-day extension in order to gather new evidence to submit to your Federal Disability Retirement claim.
